Music for a Winter Evening – Earls Court Life

Posted by Caroline Lofts

The Earls Court Community Trust is putting on their next chamber music concert for Earl’s Court residents on Thursday 19 February at St Cuthbert’s.

This is the third year of ‘Music for the Seasons’ concerts which aim to bring together music and literature and the lives of literary and musical people. Local support for the concerts has been wonderful, especially the last concert where they had a record attendance. Everyone said they enjoyed being in St Cuthbert’s with its special atmosphere and wonderful acoustics.

This one-off Valentine’s concert illuminates the work of the revered German poet, Rainer Maria Rilke. Readings from his letters to lifelong lover and friend, Lou Andreas Salome and of his poetry are juxtaposed with settings of his Sonnets to Orpheus for soprano, cello and piano and Schoenberg’s transcendent Verklaerte Nacht (Transfigured Night) which tells through music the story of a jeopardised relationship made whole through love.

Featuring: Maya Levy, soprano Miriam Kramer, violin Mayda Narvey, cello Charis Hanning, piano Karl Moffat, actor

Followed by drinks reception. All are welcome.

Admission at the door £9. Over 60 and concessions £7. Under 26 free.
