The Atlas Pub – Earls Court

The Atlas is one of Earls Court’s more traditional public houses. With a long central bar that separates eating and drinking areas and quaint walled garden at the side the decor has retained many of its original interior features without holding onto the musty old carpets and slot machines of pubs gone by. Creaky wooden flooring keeps cool in the summer and feels cosy in the winter. Leather sofas and old school chairs are dotted around low coffee and side tables and you will always find a good selection of newspapers to peruse with your pint.

While some pubs are happy to trade on beer, nuts and a nod to nourishment, The Atlas decided to take it up a notch by offering some of the best food in the area. So packed are their Sunday lunchtimes that you sometimes need to book two to three weeks in advance.

Try a Scaloppine ‘di vitelo’ deep fried veal rump, watercress and radish salad with crème fraiche and paprika, and you’ll see what I mean. The grilled yellow fin tuna with new potatoes, sun dried tomatoes, green beans & anchovy dressing is to die for. And with dessert they don’t disappoint but I always favour their profiteroles with vanilla ice cream and hot chocolate sauce.

And with such food one does tend to thirst a little. The Atlas has a generous and well thought out wine list ( they play host to the London Wine Academy Wine Workshops, but that’s another post…) and four ales on tap at any one time from a range of hand picked British breweries.

Aren’t we lucky to have so much of the world on our doorstep…
